LCPS PAINTED STUDENT PARKING SPACE RULES & REGULATIONS

RULES: Painting of parking spaces is a limited expressive forum, meaning that there are narrow parameters of what is acceptable and what is not permitted. The school reserves the right to refuse any design that it deems inappropriate.

  • Images should be positive and pertain to promoting a positive school environment and spirit
  •  All designs must be approved by the school administration before being painted
  • Only student first names can be used (no last names)
  • Only spots in designated student parking areas are allowed to be painted
  • Painting is only allowed on the designated day
  • A four-inch border must be maintained; this can be accomplished by using blue painter’s tape
  • The parking spot you paint becomes your designated parking spot for the remainder of the school year
  • The students will provide all paint and painting tools
    • Only water based exterior latex paint can be used to paint the space. This paint may be purchased at stores like Lowes, Home Depot, etc. No glitter paint, reflective paint, spray paint, etc. will be allowed
    •  Additional tools and tips:
      • The average parking space is approximately 162 square feet and asphalt tends to soak up paint, so plan on multiple coats
      • A broom or leaf blower to sweep the parking space before you paint (be careful not to sweep onto another student’s wet paint!)
      • Chalk to sketch out your design before painting
      • Masking tape or painter’s tape to mark off a 4-inch space around the parking spot number
      • Brushes, rollers, paint trays, etc.
      • Trash bags to gather up all trash. All trash/paint cans/tape must be removed from your space when you leave
      • A ruler/yardstick/tape measure to help measure the design boundary
      • Comfort items (pop up shade tent, food & drink, folding chairs, etc.). The parking lot is HOT, and you will not have access to the school building, so plan accordingly
  • You may paint over a spot that was painted last year
  • You will have to paint over a previous spot with a base coat
  •  As soon as possible, you should paint 2026-27 in the corner of your parking space so that other students know the space is taken

REGULATIONS: Any design that is in violation of the following parameters will be removed and the student could face disciplinary consequences. The school reserves the right to refuse any design proposal that is deemed inappropriate.

  • Nothing profane, obscene, or lewd (inappropriate language, content, or sexual references)
  • No references to illegal activity (drugs, alcohol, gang behavior, tobacco, violence or threats of violence)
  • No religious or political statements, imagery, references, or allusions (this includes flags or symbols or numbers)
  • Nothing that is discriminatory or perceived to be discriminatory in nature
  • Nothing that runs contrary to the Student Rights and Responsibilities for Families and Student Code of Conduct (SR&R)
  • No lyrics or quotations
  • No references to other people
  • Any painting that diverges from the approved design will be deleted; any changes must be resubmitted
